More info on the project
The Colour of Darkness is GK Makwana Film’s first international feature film. It was filmed on location in India and Australia, and written, directed and scored by acclaimed musician and filmmaker, Girish Makwana.
The Colour of Darkness encapsulates a fascinating, character-driven story, inspired by real-life events, dealing with themes of intercultural tensions, the caste divide, exploration of different worlds, and how immersion in a different culture can help achieve a greater understanding of your own origins. The Colour of Darkness shines a light on the parts of Indian life that Bollywood glitz shies away from, and explores uncomfortable truths that inhabit the cosmopolitan city of Melbourne.
The Colour of Darkness provides a visually beautiful gem of a film, an unforgettable original soundtrack, and a profound and current cinema experience that will resonate on a global scale. The film has won BEST FILM JURY AWARD in 5th Indian Cine Film Festival in 2017. It has been nominated in 5 categories (Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Costume, Best Production Design) in Australian Independent Ozflix Awards, 2018
